9u Birmingham Giants roll off 4 straight to claim championship


In their first local tournament, the Birmingham Gianst 9u team rolled off 4 victories in a row, the bring home their first championship of the spring. In their first game the Birmingham Giants 9u was matched up with the expos. In a run shortened game, the Giants claimed a 27-0 victory, posting the 2nd highest run total in club history. Aaron Robinson tossed a no hitter logging 5 strikeouts along the way. Justin Hill, Ross Christy, Lucas Busby, Landon Kyle, Max Bell, Taylen Johnson, Aaron Robinson, Legend McMiller, General Wilcher, and Kam Laws all had hits in the win.

In game 2 of pool play the Giants faced off with the Dream Team. Justin Hill (1), Ross Christy (2), Lucas Busby (1), Landon Kyle (1), Max Bell (1), and Aaron Robinson (1) led the Giants offense, and Landon Kyle registered 6 strike outs over 2 innings to earn the victory. The win seated the Birmingham Giants first overall heading into bracket play.

In bracket play, the Giants were matched up with the Druid City Bulls. Justin Hill (1), General McMiller (1), Landon Kyle (1), Taylen Johnson (1) and Aaron Robinson (1) had hits and Lucas Busby struck out 2 over 4 innings as the Giants pulled out the 11-8 win, moving them into the finals to face the Tuscaloosa thunder.

In the Championship game, Birmingham Giants pitching allowed just 1 hit over 5 innings as Taylen Johnson struck out 5 over 4 innings and Landon Kyle closed out the final inning striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced. At the plate Justin Hill (1), Ross Christy (1), Max Bell (2), Taylen Johnson (2), Jamarcus Jackson (1) and Kam Laws (1) pounded out hits as the Giants cruised to an 8-3 win.
