12u Birmingham Giants Softball finishes second


Playing in Calera Alabama on saturday, the Birmingham Giants 12u Softball team laced up their Spikes and ran through bracket play, dropping only the championship game to finish second. In the first 2 pool play games, the Giants defense struggled causing the Giants to drop both games, but offensively hits came from Ryliegh Hall (1), Cecily Johnson (1), Piper Rowe (1), Emery Plunkett (1), and Emily Vorster (1) in the losses.

In their first game of bracket play, the Giants matched up with Venom 07. Cecily Johnson started the game in the circle allowing just 2 hits while striking out 3 over 2 innings and Kylie Snowden struck 5 over the final 2 innings of the 5-1 win. Ryleigh Hall (1), Hailey Nichols (1), Cecily Johnson (2), and Ava Brand (1) all had hits in the win. The win moved the Giants into the semi finals to face Venom 08.

In the semi finals Kylie Snowden started the game in the circle , striking out 12 over 6 innings, allowing just 1 hits and 2 runs. Offensively Hailey Nichols (2), Cecily Johnson (1), Sophie Gromko (1), Piper Rowe (2), Kylie Snowden (1), and Emily Vorster (1), and Hadley Williams (1) all had hits in the 5-1 win. The win moved the Giants into the Finals.

In the championship just 3 hits over 4 innings and struck out 3, but Giant miscues cost the 7 unearned runs as the Giants fell 9-1. Offensively Hailey Nichols (1), and Jamie Hughley (2B) had hits for the Giants as they finished 2nd.
