Playing in Trussville, the Birmingham Giants 10u Softball team, played through some of the areas better teams to finish 2nd over all at the Maggies Rules Tournament. In their first game of pool play, the Giants were matched up with White Lightning. The Giants jumped out to a 9-0 first inning lead, and coasted to an 11-2 win. Offensively the Giants were led by Kinley Seibert (1), Kenzy Atkinson (1), Laney Little (1), Kate Flannagan (1), and Brooklynn Dalvin(1) who all had hits and Kenzy Atkinson and Elsie Lowery both struck out the side in their inning of work for the win. In their second game of pool play, the Giants again faced off with White Lightning, this time the 2012 team. Kate Flannagan allowed just 1 hit while striking out 4 and Grace Turner (3B), Kinley Seibert (1), Kenzy Atkinson (1), Laney Little (1), Kate Flannagan (1), and Elsie Lowery (3B) all had hits as the Giants rolled to a 9-2 win. In their last game of pool play, the Giants were matched up with the 2011 White Lightning team. Grace Turner allowed just 2 hits while striking out 6 over 3 innings but some Giants misque’s led to 3 unearned runs. At the plate Kenzy Atkinson (2), Laney Little (1), Andi Zannis (1) and Brooklynn Dalvin (1) all had hits but the Giants lost 3-2. The 2-1 record sent the Giants into bracket play to face Mercado.
Grace Turner struck out 3 over 4 innings, and the Giants defense allowed just 1 earned run in the 5-2 win. At the plate Grace Turner (1), Kinley Seibert (1), and Laney Little (2, 1 HR) all had hits as the Giants moved on 5-2. The win moved the Giants into the Semi Finals to face the 2011 Mustangs. Kate Flannagan allowed no hits over 3 innings, and Kenzy Atkinson closed out the final 2 innings of the Giants 9-2 win. Grace Turner (1), Kinley Seibert (2), Laney Little (2), Kate Flannagan (1), Elsie Lowery (1), and Addison Bailey (1) had hits for the Giants as the advanced to the championship of the Maggies Rules tournament.
In the Championship game, the Giants faced off with the Birmingham Thunderbolts. Grace Turner struck out 3 over 3 innings, and Giants hitters pounded out 2 hits (Grace Turner (2B), Laney Little (1), Kate Flannagan (1), Andi Zannis (1), and Brooklynn Dalvin (2B), but it wasn’t enough as the Giants fell 5-3, finishing 2nd.
