12u Birmingham Giants finish second at USSSA Nationals

Finishing their season with a 43-14 mark, setting a new club mark for most wins in a season, the 12u Birmingham Giants softball team won 5 of their 7 games at the USSSA nationals to pull off a second place finish of the 80 teams that competed in the event. In their first game of pool play the Giants were matched up with Extreme 08. Molly Pappas started the Giants run allowing no hits while striking out 2 in throwing the clubs 96th No HItter all time. At the plate 7 walks to go with a Home Run from Teagan Huey pushed the Giants 12 runs across in the 12-0 win. In the second game of pool play Hits from Jamie Hugley (1) and Molly Pappas were all the Giants could muster and some defensive misques late cost the Giants as they fell 4-1.

The Birmingham Giants 12u moved into bracket play at 1-1. In their first hits from Hailey Nichols (1), Jamie Hughley (1), Teagan Huey (1), Piper Rowe(1), Molly Pappas (1), Chelsea Youngblood (1), and Skiley Perry (2B) led the way and Skiley Perry allowed just 2 hits over 4 innings and 1 run in the Giants 9-1 win. The win moved the Giants on to face the 35-1 Posse team from Florida.

Skiley Perry allowed just 1 hit while striking out 10 over 4 innings, and the Giants offense pounded out 8 hits ( Shelby Parker (2), Teagan Huey (2), Hailey Nichols (3B), Piper Rowe (1), and Maggie Holt (2)) and the Giants added a second loss of the season to the Posse mark, cruising to a 6-0 win. The win moved the Giants on to face the Cobras in the next round. Skiley Perry again took the circle, and allowed No Hits over 4 innings, while striking out 12, tossing the Giants 97th No Hitter all time. At the plate Shelby Parker (1), Teagan Huey (3B), Hailey Nichols (1), Briley Easton (3B), Piper Rowe (2), and Molly Pappas (1) all had hits and the Giants rolled to a 12-0 win.

In the next round, the Birmingham Giants 12u was scheduled to face Vengeance Elite 08. Skiley Perry scattered 3 hits over 3 innings, while striking out 3, and hits from Shelby Parker (3B), Briley Easton (2), Piper Rowe (1). and Hadley Williams (1) all had hits as the Giants pulled out the 4-1 win. In their next round of bracket play, the Giants squared off with the Texas Bandits. Skiley Perry again took the circle, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 4 over 4 innings and Shelby Parker (2), Teagan Huey (2B), Briley Easton (1), Molly Pappas (2B), and Chelsea Youngblood (2, 1 2B) pounded out hits in the Giants 5-1 win, The win moved the Giants into the National Championship game to face off with Epic.

In the Championship game, the Giants managed just 1 hit from Maggie Holt, and Skiley Perry allowed just 3 hits but it was not enough as the Giants dropped 5-2, finishing 2nd.
