A baseball award for all of us
I’m not sure if it’s the case with all writers, but it
is with me.
Writing about one’s self is a very difficult thing to
do.
It feels awkward. It feels weird. It feels like I’m
saying “Look at me! Look at me! It’s all about me!”
But today, especially, it’s not about me.
Actually, it’s all about all of us in this community.
That said, here’s the gist of this week’s WKSN
column:
Last weekend, I traveled to Youngstown, Ohio,
to accept the 2016 National Amateur Baseball
Federation John Benedict Sports Journalism
Award.
The award was presented during the NABF’s
102nd annual meetings gathering, during an
afternoon luncheon/dinner at which several
folks associated with the NABF from around
the country were honored with awards and
recognitions.
In my particular case, I received the award for
my coverage in the Battle Creek Shopper News of
the 102nd Charles M. Blackburn Jr. NABF Major
Division World Series that took place at Battle
Creek’s Bailey Park this past Aug. 3-7 (and which
was held in B.C. for the fourth straight summer).
I was nominated for the award by Battle Creek’s
Terry Newton, local World Series tourney director;
by Pat Eaken of the NABF public relations
department (who is also sports editor/staff writer
for The Press, a metro suburban weekly paper
covering the Maumee Bay, Ohio area); and by
Jason Gilmartin and executive director Charles M.
Blackburn Jr. of the NABF offices.
